HSS goes to McMaster DECA U Case Competition
On Saturday November 2, 2013, Team HSS had the privilege to judge at the annual McMaster University DECA U Case Competition (MDCC) at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington which featured over 170 competing students.
Led by Co-Presidents Andrew Soave and Christopher Lee, McMaster DECA U opened their doors to DECA Chapters across Ontario where students put their experience, skills and knowledge to the test. DECA U is Canada’s largest undergraduate conference and case competition with 2200+ members across 20 universities and colleges. DECA U competitive event programs are recognized for helping prepare students for their professional careers. At the conferences students are judged by business and industry professionals. Team HSS judged students on both accounting and sports & entertainment cases where each participant was given 15 or 30 minutes of preparation time and then were asked to create a 10 or 15 minute presentation immediately after.
The Hogg, Shain & Scheck team had a great time meeting and greeting students at McMaster University and judging alongside professionals from the Hamilton/Burlington business community. Professionals that took time during their weekend to judge the competition included executives and representatives from Innovation Factory, RHI IG, Ancaster Soccer Club, Citco Fund Services, Canada Pakistan Professionals Association, Kaplan, Inc., CMC, One Class, Deloitte, McMaster Children’s Hospital and the McMaster University Faculty. Keynote speakers included motivational speaker Ryan Coelho and Paresh Patel, MD, a leader from the local health care community.
DECA U’s slogan is to Dream, Inspire and Achieve, and HSS echo that sentiment. It was indeed an inspiration giving back to our next generation’s best and brightest and we look forward to staying involved in the DECA U community in the future. We hope to see you there too!
